Novice Rep Silverstick

Great efforts for these little dogs at the Regional Silverstick Tournament hosted by Parkhill.

As we put on our white home jerseys we were excited for our first Silver Stick game to start.  Most of the players were chattering about the fact that this regional tournament was trading pins more so than the pending game.  That's kids for you.  Taking off their green landyards they got their helmets on and hit the ice!

Our first opponent was the South Huron Sabres.  They were here to win.  The Sabres came out strong and fast.  We did our best to hold our own and even managed a few shots on net.  Our little dogs tired out quickly trying to keep the puck out of our end and did a great job staying with the puck.  Unfortunately we took a 7-1 loss.

But our spirits were not lost, the kids ate their lunch, ran around and most importantly traded pins.

After lunch and a bit of rest they geared back up for the second game against the Ilderton Jets.  Putting on our blue jerseys this time we were ready for a team that we knew were strong and would likely come out skating.  Well as the puck dropped, guess who brought the heat?  The Ice Dogs!  What a hard played game.  Our kids skated their butts off in this game and never gave up.  This is a well matched team and they were not giving it away, we had to work.  As the last 30 seconds of the game neared, the Jets pulled their goalie and came full speed ahead.  This lead to a major scramble and fight for our life in front of our net that left you on the edge of your seat.  After all the hard play we were happy and proud of our 2-1 win!  Congrats Ice Dogs and to Nathan Jewitt for receiving the award for Player of the Game.

Home for a day of rest then back at the Parkhill arena for another early game.  Again putting on our white jerseys we suited up for another tough opponent.  We played a tough game against the Ingersoll Express.  They are a well organized and fast team.  It was all we could do to keep them out of our end.  It was clear right off the start they were a tougher team but we never gave up.  Not once did our kids quit or smack their sticks out of frustration.  We kept skating and digging hard on the boards.  Special mention to our goalie Julia who fielded over 30 shots on net.  This team had a lot of great shooters and Julia did amazing!  We took a hard 5-1 loss but we could not be prouder of their sportsmanship!

Many thanks to many who made this tournament a success.  Colleen our manager for keeping us organized and in the loop, the coaching staff for all their regular hard work on and off the bench encouraging and guiding our players, and to all parents and family members to took the time to come and cheer on the players.

Special thanks to our sponsor Babbs Custom Crushing for generously donating the cost of the entire tournament registration fee for the team.  Falling shortly after Christmas it is greatly appreciated!  Also thanks to a sponsor that wishes to be anonymous for donating towards the purchase of the pins that were traded at this tournament.  It feels great to be part of a team that has so many supporters.  Thanks again, and great work Ice Dogs!
