Spooktacular Performance By Bantam Reps
Submitted By Chris Johnson on Saturday, October 31, 2009
Our Bantam Rep Ice Dogs made it four wins in a row with a strong performance against the rival Seaforth Stars. Both teams had casualties due to the rampant flu bug. The Ice Dogs were without coach Kevin and Hayden(get well soon guys) and the Stars were down a few players also. The Stars put up a valiant effort for two periods, but the third caught up with their "short bench" and the Dogs took advantage.

For most of the first period the Ice Dogs controlled the play, keeping the puck in the offensive zone. It was obvious that the game plan was to take it to the Stars from the opening faceoff. The Dogs cycled the puck down low extremely well, and it was effective, as it generated many scoring chances. But the Dogs couldn't seem to capitalize on their chances. In their own end of the rink, when Seaforth had scoring opportunities the IceDog defense was up to the task. Foster was sharp, making timely saves when he was called upon, keeping his team in the game.

The second period started off as more of the same. The Dogs continued tenaciously to get the puck deep and forecheck hard. Finally, after a relentless attack, Mack let a shot go from the point that was saved by the Seaforth goalie. But the rebound was there for Brett and he buried it. A couple minutes after that Seaforth showed they were up to the challenge and they evened the score. This is when the Dogs smelled blood because just two minutes after Seaforth evened the score, Tyler M. took passes from Lucas and Zack and the Dogs were up by one. Just twelve seconds later, Tyler M. skated in and continued the attack by netting another one. Seaforth wouldn't go away as they netted a goal to get within one. But with just eight seconds left in the period Connor jammed one home from Tyler E. and Keith and that was the beginning of the end.
As the third opened, it was obvious that Seaforth had "run out of legs" as it only took a minute and a half for Lucas to skate end to end and not only score, but break the goalies water bottle as he roofed a shot making it 5-2 for the Dogs. And then just fifteen seconds after the faceoff, Troy took a short pass from Matt and he turned on his jets, he skated in and wristed a nice shot home to put the Dogs up 6-2. At this point the game started to get "chippy". The Dogs started to get a little undisiplined and taking penalties. During a string of penalties Seaforth managed to sneak one past TJ to make it 6-3. The Dogs remained undisiplined and at one point in the third were down five skaters to three. Colin and Deven skated well and made it hard for Seaforth to get anything going on the powerplay. The IceDogs gained some momentum from the strong penalty killing and late in the third the Dogs attacked again with Brett firing a shot home, with assists going to Matt and Troy.
