U 15 Rep - 2022 International Silver Stick Kincardine Regional Champs!
On Friday, February 11, 2022 the BCH U15 Rep team headed to Kincardine for the International Silver Stick Regional Tournament. After 5 great games of hockey we emerged as the Champs on Sunday evening against the Host team Kincardine Kinucks.
The first game on Friday morning we met up with the Elmvale Coyotes. What a great back and forth game. Lot’s of shots on net and battles in our end, they put up a fight. We were up 4-1 with 8 minutes left in the second period the Coyotes showed their resilience responding with 3 more goals by the end of the game. Our team held on with the lead and scored 3 more as well. We secured a 7-4 win. Off to a great start.
The second game on Friday afternoon was against the Saugeen Shores Storm who always give us a run for our money. Both teams went after each other at full speed determined to make something happen. After battling for 3 full periods both teams earned a point from a 1-1 tie.
On Saturday evening we prepared for a physical game against the Walkerton Capitals. This was the final game of the round robin. It was exciting to say the least. Emotions ran wild and we got a real show. Our team put the first goal on the scoreboard with 2 minutes left in the first period. No scoring took place in the second period. Walkerton tied it up with 7 minutes left in the third period and then we came back with another goal with 6 minutes remaining. We managed to hold them off for the rest of the third period. Winning 2-1. Our team finished first in their group which secured a spot in the semi-finals on Sunday.
Sunday morning came and we all headed off to Kincardine excited for what was to come. We battled off against the Tavistock Titans in the Semi Final game. It was nice to play a team we had not come up against before. Scoreless for both teams after the first period the scoreboard didn’t see any points until 7 minutes left in the second putting us at 1-0 at the end of the period. By the end of the third period our team scored 3 more goals coming out with 4-0 win!! Off to the championship game!
Once some of the team learned that we would come up against the Kincardine Kinucks in the championship we saw this as a second chance to redeem ourselves as we lost 2 years ago against them in the U13 championship. As a championship game should be the final game was very fast paced and it was “Edge of your Seat” hockey. The first period was scoreless. The scoring finally opened up with 7 minutes and 57 seconds left in the second period by “The Dawgs”. Who would have thought this would end up being the game winning goal! With Kincardine having lot’s of shots on net they did not go down without a fight. Final score 1-0 Ice Dogs!!
What a great weekend of hockey! The players all kept their heads in the game and maintained sportsman like conduct. We are very proud of them! Kudos to both of our Goalies Owen & Kyla each earning a shut out in the tournament. Big thanks to our coaches Norris & Ian and Trainers Dave and Mark for all of their hard work and dedication.
