Atom Girls Get Another Win Against Saugeen Shores
BCH Atom Girls played host to visiting Saugeen Shores in Hensall on Sunday, Dec. 5. The final score was 5 for BCH and 2 for Saugeen Shores.
There was a definite buzz in the changeroom before the game as the girls recounted stories from yesterday's winning game in Clinton against TDCMHA. Excited, they were eager to face the opposing team's girls once again. With Leah again suited up for goalie and Shea unable to make today's game, Coach Jeff called out the changes and line ups for this game's plan and the girls were ready to play!
Period one saw a lot of action in the Saugeen Shores zone as our girls worked very hard to keep control of the puck in the offensive zone. This definitely put some intense pressure on the other team as the puck flew back and forth. The first goal was scored at 6:22 in the first with Jet scoring from in front of the net, and Andrea assisting. In fact, the girls seemed to be putting a solid effort into "setting up" the goal. By having one girl pass the puck in front and another girl planted solidly and waiting for just the right pass...you have a really good chance to beat the goalie and score. Period two had Saugeen Shores come out with guns a blazing. This burst of energy lasted for a good while in our zone making a lot of work for both defence and forwards as it took both lines to clear the puck into the neutral zone. Jolene got her goal at 6:39 into the second by driving the puck to the other net and putting it in. Saugeen quickly answered that one back by sending a girl stick handling all the way to our net, getting her own rebound off Leah's pad and easily tapping it in while Leah was down. This same effort was attempted again, but this time Leah was very prepared and made a good save. At the beginning of the third period, Jet scored twice within seconds, once from the blue line and the next from the red line. This completed her hat trick for this game. Way to work, Jet! But BCH was not done yet. Toward the end of the third, Maddie notched up our total to 5 with a goal. Despite all of our goals, Saugeen Shores never gave up and even scored their second goal with only half a second left on the clock!
