Atom Girls Capture a Big Win in Port Elgin
On Saturday, November 14, the Atom Girls Ice Dogs took a long road trip to face the Saugeen Shores Storm in Port Elgin. After a difficult loss on Thursday night in Blyth, the girls showed wonderful game spirit to capture the win, 4 to 1. The girls opened the scoring when Laura rushed forward from defence and seized an open opportunity to get the first goal after only 3 and a half minutes into the game. Congrats to Shae on providing the assist. Then, less than a minute later, Jet slapped it into the net after a quick pass from Jenna. Saugeen Shores regrouped, stepping up the defence to try and slow the Ice Dogs down. But, the second period again saw most of the action in the Storm's zone, with the BCH girls working hard to guard their early lead. BCH goalie Justice stopped a really big shot with her glove hand. Way to catch it! The Ice Dog's third goal came mid-way in the second when Jet scored unassisted on a lucky deflection. Finally, into the third, a Storm girl managed to skate forward into our zone and, on a breakaway, she blasted a hard shot at Justice taking away her shut out. Jet, with only 16 seconds left on the clock, got the hat trick, catching her own rebound and wrapping it around from behind. A fun game to watch, with all the girls in on the play handling the puck. Way to go, girls!
