Atom Girls Win in Durham
The Atom Girls team travelled to Durham on a perfect sunny fall day to face the Durham Huskies Atom Girls team November 7. Even though the game started a bit late, the girls were unfazed and focused on the job at hand. During the first period the girls went on the offence, keeping the puck inside the Durham zone for much of the period. To the Durham goalie's credit, she stopped quite a few shots from the Ice Dogs. Finally, with 2:20 left to play in the first Maddie scored with a pass from Jet. Then, only 1 minute later, Jet again fed Maddie making it 2-0. Through the second, the Durham girls never gave up, but the Ice Dogs defense played well and goalie Justice stopped several Durham attempts to sneak the puck by her. Late in the second, the BCH defence stayed strong while shorthanded, keeping the 2-0 lead intact. Early in the third, a BCH powerplay couldn't increase the lead. Finally, a Durham girl got a hard shot away at Justice, hitting her pads loudly, but it trickled through with only 5 minutes left to play. Then, with only 30 seconds left, Durham pulled their goalie, but the Ice Dogs held them back and maintained the one goal lead to the end of the game. It was a good effort by all, and just right to get them ready for the game against the Blyth girls on Thursday night. Go Ice Dogs!
