BCH Midget LL wins WOAA
Everyone was quite keen for this game, we really wanted to win it this time for a few reasons. It was going to be nice to sweep the finals, not only that we all had "better" and more "important" things to do on a Friday night rather then drive up to Ayton. The start of the game was unreal, we as a team came out yelling screaming and making as much noise as possible. The music helped as well.
The first period seemed to be looking good with us dominating. In an attempt to block a scoring opportunity Quaidy took a tripping penalty. Not off to a good start. 1 minute into the penalty kill Indy joined Quaidy in the penalty box for the exact same sin. We killed it off successfully with the score still 0-0. The Greek took a roughing penalty about a minute after we killed the 5 on 3, this wasn’t a good start to a championship game. Still they weren’t going to score on powerplay. Normandy got the first goal of the game with 5 minutes left in the first period. Jamie reassured everyone that they scored the first goal last time and we won just like last time. Chances were there but nothing seemed to be working. The game turned into our favour with just a minute on the clock Coop tipped a puck shot by Terry Jr top shelf tying up the score. This play would become the TSN game turning point. The period ended with a 1-1 tie.
The second period started and Normandy took the first penalty. Then Diesel took a interference penalty. A player on Normandy even agreed with us that Diesel shouldn’t have got anything, but whatever we were playing 4 on 4. Then Normandy had a brief 5 on 4 power play but ended their advantage once they took a penalty. 7 seconds later Normandy took another penalty making it 4 on 3 for BCH. About half a minute later Diesel was released and ready to do more damage giving us a 5 on 3 advantage. We had some opportunities Flemming got completely robbed a few times, but still we weren’t going to get a goal on this 5 on 3. There wasn’t any other penalties for the majority of the period and neither side could score. With just 30 seconds left on the clock we were given a too many men penalty. This irritated everyone as it was so brief but we couldn’t win that fight with the ref.
Coming off the ice comments were made to both teams and back off forth. As per usual someone attempted to make fun of my blue hair which really makes much sense but, can’t do much about it. Normandy shut up pretty quickly when Wild reminded them we were already up 1 game on them. We had a brief chat were everyone said what they thought we were doing wrong, the main thing was not looking at our passes. Hopefully we could win it this period.
For the first 5 minutes neither team would score still leaving this is dead lock of 1 - 1. Reid managed to sneak in a puck blocker side after wiring a slap shot. Finally we were winning again. Teebs decided to grab the puck and it ended up that the defence didn’t pick it up in time, Teebs skated back to try and cover the empty net. All you could hear was this loud PING! Everyone watched in horror as the puck hit the post and bounced back out still 2-1. Reid then scored again but tucking the puck through the goalies five hole. We were up 3-1, and everyone agreed just to play defencely. Well that was the plan... They scored 30 seconds after that speech making it 3-2. Now with just 3:35 on the clock we really had to play defencely. 1 minute was left on the clock and we so close to winning when we noticed they pulled their goalie. Normandy was being even more aggressive. Now the clock just had 20 seconds left. Farquhar won the next 4 draws killing the final 20 seconds and allowing us to win the WOAA Finals.
All in all everyone played a lot better in the 3rd period, the defence saved easily 2 if not more goals by stopping the puck from just going over the line. After the game we debated whether or not to tell Terry about it and thought it would be funny to make him drive up Fridaynight,
