Hard Work Pays Off
Our team travelled to Durham to play in their 1 day tournament. We went 3 wins no losses to win it all.The first game against ESSA was very slow and sloppy to watch , but we were fortunate enough to win in O.T. with a 2 - 1 score.
After the game we stressed to the team that size doesn't matter if you have speed, and that we need to stick to our game plan and use the tools and skills that we have. (It was time to use the game plan that we have been using all season). We played Mildmay in the semi final game, and won 4 - 0. It was now time to play the host of tournament in the finals ( Durham ) Durham scored early in 1st, I told the boys that we were a better conditioned team and that our breaks would come if we keep working hard. With 36 seconds left in the 2nd we tied it up, and with 2 min 21 seconds left in the 3rd we went ahead. We scored 2 empty net goals to make it 4 - 1
The team played very well. We had our usual in-your-face forechecking game working, and played very strong in the D zone. Mitch Foxton had a great weekend in goal. Player of the game in the finals went to Darren Parker. As for the team as a whole, everyone contributed the way a winning team needs to. It was awesome to see the boys gel together. I would also like to note that to coach a team when parents don't complain about every call that is made or missed by ref is appreciated. There was a couple of teams in the tournament that had all angels on the team, and really liked to make it known verbally. (Their orgainizations must be proud of them). Keep up the hard work boys, See you at the Rink, Steve
