Organization - Tryout Timing Has Been Finalized

The BCH Minor Hockey Executive would like to thank everyone who participated in the Spring Tryout Questionnaire.  The Executive has had lengthy discussions about how Spring Tryouts would affect our organization. Although the results of the survey showed that there was a definite interest in making the change ~ the option this year is not feasible due to timing and ice availability.

The Executive has decided to continue with the Fall Tryouts for the 2010-2011 season but with a focus on becoming more organized to make the transition a little easier for everyone involved.   Listed below are some steps that we plan to take to ensure this is done.

1) Try Outs – BCH Hockey School will be offered at the YMCA in Goderich the week of Aug 22, 2010.  This will allow for tryouts to start as soon as the first available ice is in.  This will put us a week ahead of what we have done in the past.  We will focus on making the tryouts run smoother from start to finish.  This extra week will help us do that.

2)  Certify Coaching Staff – One of the major challenges is ensuring that our      coaching staff (coach, trainer & bench staff) is certified in a timely manner.  All coaching staff must have proper certification before the roster can be approved by OMHA ~ and before stepping on the bench.  This has caused several hold ups in the past.  We are encouraging ANY parents that want to help out to contact our Coaches Committee Chair ~ Randy Marriage as soon as possible.  There are several courses available over the spring/summer months (note: fall courses are very hard to get into ~ and we can not guarantee they will be local).  BCH Minor Hockey will reimburse the cost of the course once a parent has had placement on a team by Randy Marriage.  Different courses are required for different levels of hockey.  Please refer to the BCH website ~Our Coaches ~ Coaches Corner for a list of what is needed at each level (this will be updated shortly).  A link to the Clinics available is also on the website (top right corner).  Keep checking back to the clinics as new ones are posted weekly and they fill up quickly.  If you have any questions about clinics/certification/recertification please contact our Town Contact ~ Bernie MacLellan.

3)  Guidelines - The executive will be working on a manual over the summer.  This will give parents and volunteers guidelines on paper/website.  It will include everything from when and where to hand in cash calendars, how to book a tournament, where to get float money, and how to book refs, etc.  We hope this will help keep everyone in the loop!

These are just a couple of changes that we plan to make this fall.  We encourage you to step up and assist us with making this positive change.  Please feel free to speak to any executive member if you wish to assist ~ the sooner the better!
