Detroit - The BCH Peewee Rep Hockey Team capped off a perfect weekend in the Motor City beating the Birmingham Michigan Liberty 5-0 in the championship final of the Motown Cup Hockey Tournament. Sinker scored a natural hat-trick to lead the Dogs and was named Championship Game MVP, while Haggy stunned the crowd and the Liberty with one spectacular save after another.
The Ice Dogs travelled to Detroit on Thursday and paid a visit to the Joe to watch the Red Wings lose 4-1 to Edmonton. On Friday the Dogs faced the Flint, Michigan Mountain Cats and squeaked out a 2-1 victory. On Saturday they followed that win beating the Birmingham Liberty 5-0 in a game that was much closer than the score indicated as despite numerous chances the Liberty could not get the puck by Haggy in the Ice Dog net.
In game three the Dogs faced the Motor City Machine and picked up a 4-1 victory to finish the round robin portion of the tournament with a perfect 3-0 record. Later on Saturday Birmingham and Flint met to decide who would face the Ice Dogs in the championship game and the Liberty came out on top beating the Mountain Cats 3-2.
That set the stage for the big rematch, as the Liberty looked to avenge their previous loss to the Ice Dogs. Once again Ice Dog goaltender Haggy foiled Birmingham time and time again, while his team-mates capitalized on their opportunities and rang the Liberty Bell 5 times. Sinker had the hat-trick and was named MVP, with singles going to Snoop and Townie. Darth had a three point game setting up Sinker on his trio of goals.
