Atom AE Takes a 2 Game Series Lead
Submitted By Ian Siertsema on Sunday, January 24, 2010
On Saturday January 23, the atom AE Icedogs hosted the Tavistock Titans for game 2 of their OMHA playdown. In game one the contest was a close fought 1-0 win for the Icedogs in Tavistock. For game 2, everyone expected the play to be even more intense with both teams needing to “up their game”.

At the end of the first, the score was tied at zero. Both teams played a fast paced game with great chances at both ends of the ice, but both goalies stood tall.

In the second period, the BCH forechecking made life miserable for the Titans. They carried most of the play to the Tavistock end and with about 2 minutes to go, the Icedogs scored 2 goals 20 seconds apart. First, Luke buried one with assists from Clay and Turner. Twenty two seconds later, Kole found mesh after a great feed from Cory. Early in the third, Alex C. scored showing great determination in a mad scramble in front of the Titan goalie. At about the half way mark, Graeme muscled the puck out of his own end and fed Cory going up the left side. Cory made a nice pass to Clay who “sniped” the fourth of the game. Tavistock would score their lone marker with 22 seconds on the clock to make the final score 4-1 Icedogs.

Overall, the home team did an excellent job putting pressure on Tavistock. They used the forecheck to take away time and space (thank you Pierre McGuire) from the Titan puck handlers. The forwards are to be congratulated for their strong backchecking and limiting Tavistock’s chances.  The defense continued to move the puck well, and the team was much better at getting out of their own end than they were in game 1. Once again, Alex M. made some great saves at critical times. Game 3 goes Sat Jan 30 @1:00pm in Clinton.
