Just Like Team Canada
Okay, so we didn't go into overtime, or lose by one goal, but we came home with silver medals.....and now for the rest of the story.
On January 10th, Novice Local 2 attended a tournament in Harriston.
Our first game saw BCH vs. Plattsville. The Dogs came on strong with Brandon and Liam D. each scoring a goal. Plattsville also scored in the first, so it seemed it would be a close game.
The dogs ran away with the win though, as Liam D. and Ethan M. scored a total of 4 more goals in the second and third periods, with assists going to Ethan L., Jaden, & Reece.
With a final score of 6-1, the Ice Dogs skated to victory.
We all enjoyed a great meal, and the kids "relaxed" playing a serious game of mini sticks, as our next game was set for 3:00 against Listowel.
The team was pleasantly surprised when Liam S. showed up to cheer them on. Liam is off with a broken wrist, so unfortunately he could not play with us. He did manage to collect everyone's autograph on his cast, while hanging out in the dressing room! We were also without Colton today due to illness....hope you feel better soon. Thanks to Ethan L. and Katelyn for coming out to help us out.
Game two played out much the same as game one. The goals were spread out nicely between all the periods, with 5 goals for Liam D., 2 for Ethan M., and assists to the ever reliable wingers Reece, Payton, and Jaden, and defense Katelyn, Mac, Brandon & Derrek.
Final score was 7-1....and we were heading to the "A" finals vs. the Minto Mad Dogs.
Well...what can you say, other than the Ice Dogs worked hard, were out skated by the Minto Mad Dogs, and just couldn't manage to get many shots on net. There were a few close calls, but we couldn't come up with a goal. Minto managed enough break aways to score six times. Logan worked real hard in this game, but Minto was bigger, stronger and faster.
The defence worked their tail off getting in front of the shots, hacking sticks and poke checking, all in an effort to stop the Mad Dogs.....and our forward line also skated hard to try and get the goals, but the Mad Dog's goalie wasn't going to let anything slip past.
We tried hard, but couldn't come up with a goal or a win.
All in all it was a great day, and the team should be proud of their accomplishment.
Way to go!
