Defence was our best asset
Submitted By Nancy Huber on Tuesday, December 15, 2009
Novice LL 2 visited Mitchell over the weekend to battle one of the top teams in our division, the Mitchell Meteors.

We knew going in that Mitchell had not lost a game yet this year, and that they were going to be tough to beat.

So, the Ice Dogs put on their game faces, and prepared to play their best.

The first period saw Mitchell scoring early.  But...our dependable duo of Liam D. and Ethan managed to tie things up at the end of the first period.

The second period was full of action, with both teams getting shots on net.  Logan held on strong, but so did the Mitchell goalie.

It seemed like the game might go down as a tie, but the Meteors managed to score one more goal in the third period.  Even though we had some great shots on the Mitchell net, we just couldn't sneak one past - to even things out.

The game ended 2-1 for Mitchell.

We expected this to be a very defensive game, and our defensive team gave it all they had.  Mac, Brandon, Liam S. and Derrek were hustling in the corners, blocking shots on the net, and skating with all their might. Our "blue line cops" worked hard to keep the puck in the Mitchell end too, so our forwards could get the shots on net that we needed. Way to go boys, we couldn't have played this well with out you!

Everyone should be proud of how they played.  We didn't have one penalty, everyone played their positions, and Mitchell had more players than we did - so we had to skate harder.

Ethan was recognized as the star of the game.  He managed to get some break away's in this game, and ultimately some great shots on the Mitchell net.  You always skate hard, and your speed and puck handling are a real asset to our team.  Congratulations!

On December 15th we will meet Mitchell again, as they visit us in Bayfield.

Let see if we can give Mitchell their first Loss of the season.
