09-10 Peewee Girls - Peewee Girls finish strong at the year end tournament
Submitted By Ian Siertsema on Monday, March 29, 2010
The girls played some great hockey to finish their year in style.  The Icedogs traveled to Southampton for the year end tournament on Saturday March 27th and started with a game against the Durham Huskies.  After three periods of great hockey and terrific effort, the dog fight ended in a draw at 0-0 giving both teams even points in the tournament.

The Icedogs traveled to the local watering hole to refuel before the next match and took a team spirit run back to the Coliseum to get fired up for their second game of the day.  The fans were loud and energy was high as the Icedogs took on the Owen Sound Ice Hawks.  The game started with a bang as Jenna got the shot and Amanda slid the puck past the Ice Hawks goalie in the first shift of the game.  The girls were pumped up now.  Kelsey was next to get on the scoreboard on a pass from Rayna, followed by a breakaway pass from Taryn to Amber who took the lead to three.  The Ice Hawks were not going down without a fight and slid one in past Chelsea to keep the game interesting.  A goal by Taryn (from Jenna) showed them these girls meant business, followed by an unassisted point shot by Brooke to finish the game off at 5-1.

Everyone played a great game and had scoring chances in a very exciting game which clinched their spot in the final game of the Rising Stars division.

The BCH Icedogs would return to the Plex in Port Elgin on March 28th to take another shot at the Durham Huskies for the hardware.  After a strong effort and some great goal tending at both ends, the Huskies pulled ahead and kept the pressure on.  The dog fight continued but the Icedogs couldn’t get past the Huskie’s goalie.  The Huskies would slip one more in to finish the game at 2-0 and head home with the Rising Stars trophy and all the hardware!!!! A strong runner up finish for the Icedogs.

The coaches were proud of how well every single girl played and the tremendous improvement throughout the year.  There was never a lack of effort shown by this team and they didn’t stop until the final buzzer went for each game they played.  Way to go girls- you rock!!!!
