Midget Local - A Bad Ending For Our Little “Fairy Tale”
Submitted By Eric Armstrong on Sunday, February 07, 2010
We couldn’t go into the play offs thinking we undefeatable. Well we could of, but exactly this would of happened. As we were getting dressed we looked at the shiny trophy sitting on the bench. Terry reminded us that even though the season was practically over we still needed to play just like our last game so we would ensure the number 1 spot.

The game started out strong with Wood taking a slap shot from in front of the net. The rest of the period seemed okay until they scored with 3 minutes left making it a 1-1 tie. Then 2 minutes later they scored again making it 2-1. This was the first time we had been scored on twice back to back. The period ended with a 2-1 for Teeswater.
The coaching staff was not amused.  We should have been running this team into the ground. All we had to do was to start playing proper hockey and it would have all worked out. However instead of doing that, we scored another penalty. We killed that penalty we got another one! Then they scored again making the score 4-1.  We got yet another penalty, but to top it off we got a Bench Minor, (although the penalty was given to us because fan action) and we lost another man giving them a 5-3 advantage.  On the flip side we love all the support we get from our fans so don’t stop what you do, keep it up! Before the 5-3 was killed we were given another penalty. They had to score, which they did. 5-1 Teeswater. Shorthanded Wood wasn’t going to back down as he scored shooting under the goalie’s pad, making the score 5-2 Teeswater. Maybe there was going to be some light at the end of this tunnel. Right after that Ice Man skated to the bench saying that he wasn’t feeling well in the digestive system and needed to be off now. In an attempt to stop a delay of game penalty Big E tried to call a time out but it was too late. He was later told that you can only call time outs in the playoffs. With 2 minutes left it looked like we would be out of this mess. Wrong, we were given still another penalty. We skated off between the intermission behind at 5-2 and would resume the play on a 5-4 disadvantage.
Terry told us to look at the trophy we had won at last weekend’s tournament. He told us to play like we did for that game, we need it now, we could do this. After all, we scored 5 goals in 5 minutes against Minto, 5 in a period against Wingham, this could still be our game. Teebs relieved Ice Man and allowed him to do his business. The penalty trip continued but we started playing 5 on 5 hockey again at the 5 minute mark. On the bright side they had yet to score again, but neither had we.  Wood picked up a rebound at about the 6 minute mark. The arena exploded as it was 5-3 now and a hat trick for Wood. We could do this we thought, this is our game! A minute later Wyker scored from the blue line making the score 5-4. So close, so close. Then the worst thing possible happened, about a minute after Wyker’s goal, they scored again bringing the score back to a 6-4 lead. Still 4 minutes left and we could still do this. The minutes drained on and on they got a penalty with 2 minutes left. Yes the game was still in our grasp. With just 30 seconds left on the clock, still down by 2, this game wasn’t looking good.  We couldn’t score, our best players were on but nothing would turn up. We lost our first game of the season. Cutting our perfect season up. We only had 1 more game after this one as well.
